Justin Metzger brings more than two decades of running experience and eight years of coaching to his new role. He served as the head boy’s cross-country coach at Century High School in Sykesville from 2011 through 2016, when the team became a state finalist. Metzger believes that success lies in creating a team that has fun together while supporting each other throughout the entire year, not only during race season.

For the past four years, Metzger has coached at Blackbird CrossFit in Eldersburg, where in addition to teaching proper movement mechanics to numerous clients he developed and coached an endurance and recovery class.  He has also coached more than three dozen athletes from ages 16-55 to meet their goal of successfully completing, or improving their performance in, a half-marathon. He takes a holistic approach, focusing on the athlete’s form, nutrition, sportsmanship, and performance.

Since 2010, Metzger has taught mathematics, including advanced placement statistics, at Century High School. Additionally, he is a curriculum writer for Carroll County Public Schools and has served on the Teacher Advisory Council.

Metzger earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Shippensburg University, where he competed in both cross-country and track and field. He resides in Sykesville with his supportive wife Sarah and dog Roscoe. Metzger is originally from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania (the City of Champions) and is a die-hard Penguins fan.
