Athletes of the Week: Women's Soccer

Athletes of the Week: Women's Soccer

Instead of an Athlete of the Week, we are highlighting the women’s soccer team as a whole for the dedication they have shown this Fall!

After taking over the women’s soccer program in the middle of last spring, Head Coach Tom O’Brien pulled together a roster of 9 athletes ready to compete for the Lynx. While numbers prevented the team from competing in the NJCAA this year, they have been practicing all Fall in the hopes of fielding the first women’s soccer team at Carroll in 2023. When asked about the team, O’Brien stated “Even with our low numbers, these players train hard, want to learn, and improve every time they hit the pitch. They all play the game so well and I am super happy with everyone’s progress”.

The group comes mostly from Westminster or elsewhere in Maryland, besides Valeria Valencia Quiroz who calls Medellín, Colombia home. Some notable accolades for the group include Sydney Hetrick who earned first team all-county playing at Westminster High and Isabella Battaglini who won the MACSAC volleyball championship in 2019 with Carroll Christian. Despite playing European football, most of the players prefer to watch the American version, with almost half the team cheering on the Baltimore Ravens every Sunday including first-year Lilly Rankin. The team also has an affinity for travel as almost half of them listed places to go when asked to name something on their bucket list. Rachelle Novac hopes to head off to Iceland one day to see the northern lights while Caylee Vacca would like to visit every US state.

Congratulations to the 2022 women’s soccer team on a great Fall, we cannot wait for you all to officially compete in 2023!
