Athletic Training

“The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) is committed to protecting the safety and well-being of the athletes that participate in our member schools’ athletic programs. It is the responsibility of each member institution to develop procedures and follow practices that reflect the current standards of student athlete care and follow the guidelines established in the NJCAA Handbook.” (NJCAA Position Statement on Safety, NJCAA Handbook 2022-23)

To ensure compliance with NJCAA guidelines, the Athletic Training Department and Athletics Medical Staff at Carroll Community College are responsible for coordinating the sports medicine related needs of the Athletic Department. This includes managing issues such as student-athlete preparticipation medical clearance, injury prevention programs, implementing injury/illness management protocols, coordinating Team Physician services, overseeing emergency action plans, practice and event coverage, acute and chronic injury assessment, and the development of injury treatment and rehabilitation plans.

Preparticipation Medical Clearance:

All prospective student athletes must be medically cleared prior to participating in any team activity, whether it be in-season or out-of-season. This includes practices, contests, as well as team workouts and conditioning sessions.

Preparticipation medical clearance includes an up to date preparticipation physical exam, as well as several other important forms, which must be completed and updated annually. It is important for prospective student-athletes to provide a complete and thorough medical history as well indicate understanding of several key policies and procedures.
