The Lynx men's lacrosse team had another decisive home win on Saturday, March 26, beating Williamson College of the Trades 17-9.

According to Head Coach Brady Slater, "Great team effort today! Even when the guys were faced with a little adversity, they worked through it and really showed a tremendous amount of maturity."

Latif Yacoubou scored a hat trick in the first period, off two assists from Jake Kanther and one from Kia Cummings. Despite Yacoubou's prolific scoring, the Lynx were only up by one goal at the end of the first, 4-3.

Another trio of goals in the second—all unassisted by Alex Hillis, Dahon Saunders and Colin Adams—put the Lynx up by a score of 7-6 at the half.

The tide turned in the third period however, with the Lynx taking control and taking advantage of man-up opportunities. Three of five Lynx goals in the period came on man-up situations—Kanther from a Yacoubou assist, Yacoubou from a Kanther assist and AJ Johnson unassisted. Carroll pulled away in the third, finishing the period up 12-7.

The Lynx put the game away with another two goals while up a player in the fourth—Yacoubou scoring both, one on an assist from Adams and the other assisted by Cummings. Saunders scored another two, one on an assist from Alex Hillis and the other unassisted and Hillis scored one unassisted for a final tally of 17-9.

Goalie Tyler Branner made nine saves on 17 shots on goal.

""We played a tough game and never gave up on ground balls, which I think was a big reason for the victory," noted Assistant Coach Jim Long. The Lynx had nine fewer turnovers (25-34) and made effective use of their man-up chances.

Slater affirmed that the game was a "total team defensive effort," and singled out Latif Yacoubou as the player of the game. "We will be back to work on Monday to prepare for a grueling three-game stretch this week."

The Lynx play next on Wednesday, March 30 at Potomac State College, Friday, April 1 against Mercer County and then Wednesday, April 6 against Anne Arundel, both home matches.
