Carroll Men’s Lacrosse Dominate in Home Opener

The Lynx men’s lacrosse team notched the program’s first win in their home opener on Saturday, March 19 against York College by a score of 15-3.

“What a great day for the guys and Carroll men’s lacrosse program,” exclaimed Head Coach Brady Slater. “Today’s win is the product of a lot of hard work from everyone involved.”

AJ Johnson scored four goals in the first period—two on assists from Jake Kanther, one from Colin Adams and one from Latif Yacoubou.

The Lynx scored four goals in the second period as well. Two unassisted by Alex Hillis and Logan Zeigenfuse, another from Zeigenfuse from a Yacoubou assist and one from Adams, assisted by Kanther. Carroll was up 8-1 at the half.

The Lynx got goals in the third period from Kanther off an assist from Adams, Adams off an assist from Johnson and from Sean O’Connell off an assist from Kanther.

Luke Drager and Yacoubou scored unassisted goals in the fourth period and Yacoubou scored from an assist by Zach Wienecke and Zeigenfuse scored off an assist from Hillis.

Starting goalie Tyler Branner made eight saves on 10 shots and back-up goalie Samuel Mancha made five saves on six shots. Assistant Coach Jim Long noted that both Branner and Mancha “had great games in goal. Our defense played better and our clearing improved,” Long continued.

The Lynx played hard and physical for the game’s duration, never giving York a chance to regroup.

Players of the game were AJ Johnson and Connor Coonts. Slater noted that, “the two captains have led by example from day one!”

The decisive win was not only a landmark home opening game but also a confidence booster for the team after their disappointing season-opening loss to Delaware Technical. “We look forward to getting back [from spring break] to prepare for our next game versus Williamson Trade,” said Slater.
