With a full roster this spring, the men’s lacrosse team is prepping for their season opener on Feb. 26 at Delaware Technical Community College.

“MDJUCO is one of the best leagues in the country,” explained Head Coach Brady Slater, “so our main goal is to build on last year’s success and compete to the best of our abilities. Although we have come a long way from when we first stepped on the field, we still have a long way to go.”

A strong group of returning athletes will provide continuity to the team as a whole and mentorship to new team members. Returners include AJ Johnson, Angel Hernandez, Connor Coonts, Jake Barkley, Neptune Jean-Joseph, Wyatte Johns and Zach Wienecke.

Although the team is predominantly comprised of Carroll County athletes, Slater noted that some student-athletes also are from Baltimore and Frederick counties as well as York and Adams counties in Pennsylvania.

This year’s captains are Johnson, Coonts, Latif Yacoubou and Jake Kanther. “AJ and Connor have stepped up as our offensive and defensive team leaders this year,” affirmed Slater. “Both should have a significant impact on our team’s chemistry on and off the field.”

The team’s home opener is on Saturday, March 19 against York College. Game time is 1 p.m.
