Another New Coach Joins the Lynx

Another New Coach Joins the Lynx

The Carroll Lynx soccer program is excited to announce another Head Coach signing with the addition of Carl Delmont for women’s soccer.

Delmont has been a coach in Carroll County for 18 years, coaching multiple high school girls teams with Baltimore Celtic while also being the president of the club. Baltimore Celtic has become Maryland’s premier soccer club over the past decade under Delmont, which fields over 40 teams between men’s and women’s and has won six national championships since 2014. He is also the CEO and owner of the Harrisburg Heat, a professional indoor soccer team that plays in the Major Arena Soccer League against teams such as the Baltimore Blast.

“I am honored to be chosen for this opportunity and I am excited to get started,” said Delmont. “The groundwork is there. Now we begin the hard work required for women’s soccer to take off at Carroll. We will start the recruiting process immediately and look forward to building something special. Every team I have coached started from scratch and although this is a different level, I am very optimistic that the program will succeed, especially with a great athletic department supporting us!"

Now former Head Coach Tom O’Brien is encouraged by the signing stating, “I was pleased to hear of the appointment of our new women’s Head Coach Carl Delmont.  Having someone so involved in the local club soccer community and well connected across the region to this beautiful game will be an incredible asset to the team and should provide some of the additional energy and emphasis to acquiring and developing student athletes into an ongoing competitive side.”

O’Brien took on the women’s role last year, combining the role he held with the men’s team since 2019. While they did not compete officially last year, they did train in Fall of 2022 with a roster of nine.

“Although I thoroughly enjoyed my brief time as the women’s coach, it is time for me to step away and let a new manager take over and finally fulfill the promise of a complete varsity side for women’s soccer,” explained O’Brien. “I can’t express how appreciative I am for the work of my assistants over this past season, for teaching good soccer and life lessons. I want to especially thank coach Iliyan Slavov who has been with the soccer program from the beginning and has now left his mark on both women’s and men’s student athletes that will benefit them well after they walk away from the game.”

“we are very thankful to have had Tom coach the women’s team for this one season” said Athletic Director Bill Kelvey. “Even in just the short time he worked with the team, he was able to set the program up for its first year of competition which is incredible. We are proud to have had Tom as our coach and wish him the best moving forward.”
